Also on the Theresienwiese, where the Oktoberfest takes place every autumn, the spring festival invites to a cosy get-together. From 25 April to 11 Mai 2025 on the “Frühlingswiesn“ you can find everything from small shooting galleries to ship swings and huge rides like the “XXL Racer“. In the beer tents and beer gardens, the smell of chicken and roasted almonds is accompanied by brass bands and beer.

It could hardly be more Munich-like: On Mariahilfplatz (square) with its magnificent church and the magnificent view over the city, people meet in traditional costume or in the normal way to the Auer Dult (festival) – or more precisely to the Maidult, which begins in April (just as the Oktoberfest starts in September ...). It is called that because it starts on the Saturday before May 1st. From 26 April to 4 Mai 2025, around 100,000 guests will celebrate spring – everyone to their liking: children love the nostalgic chain carousel, handmade doll's clothes, small furniture for their playhouses at home and the cotton candy. Adults browse through pottery, knitted jackets or practical household goods – and of course don't forget the beer and steamed noodles. Dult is cult!

A highlight of the young Munich theatre scene every year is the Radikal jung festival at the Volkstheater. Young directors present their productions here. The aim of the festival is to promote the new generation of theatre directors, highlight their thematic and aesthetic preferences and present them to both a specialist audience and the general public.

Munich residents and visitors alike also love the legendary flea market on the Theresienwiese – which is why it is worth getting up early. Very early indeed! If you want to make bargains in peace and quiet, then you have a good chance. In the morning at the latest, it gets really crowded here between the almost endless beer and wallpaper tables full of half-measures. The good thing about it: The Bavarian Red Cross flea market supports social projects.

The 36th Turkish Film Days Munich will take place in March/April 2025. The audience can look forward to the best Turkish films of the year, which will be shown in the two Munich cinemas Rio Filmpalast and Neues Rottmann Kino.

Bauma is the largest construction trade fair in the world. It takes place every three years at the Munich Exhibition Centre and, with over 3,000 exhibitors from all over the world, is regarded as the meeting place for the construction industry.

Simply The Best is a tribute to the exceptional artist Tina Turner, who has left her mark on half a century of rock history with over 180 million records sold, countless number 1 hits and chart-topping hits such as “Simply The Best“, “Private Dancer“ and “We Don't Need Another Hero“. The musical biography describes the singer's eventful life from her early successes through more difficult times to her rocket-like rise in the 80s and the film music for “GoldenEye“ in the mid-90s.

The 3rd Cocktail X Festival opens at the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski with an event that attracts up to 600 guests, including celebrities and influencers. Six renowned bars from Munich, such as Schumann's, Trisoux and El Tato, offer creative cocktails and live music to provide guests with a special experience.

Rainhard Fendrich celebrated his musical breakthrough in 1981 - the Austrian singer-songwriter has been on stage ever since. His best-known songs certainly include ‘Macho, Macho’ and ‘Weus'd a Herz hast wia a Bergwerk’, which is also often sung at the Oktoberfest. For his 70th birthday and 45th stage anniversary, Fendrich is once again doing the honours and touring Germany with old and new songs. On 16 April 2025, you can see him live with his ‘Nur ein Wimpernschlag - Tour 2025’ at the Olympiahalle!

The Isarflux music festival has been organised entirely by the Gasteig's trainees since 2009 and attracts a young audience in particular with its programme. This year, the free festival will take place on Easter Sunday at Gasteig HP8 - a whole host of bands and DJs have been invited to play throughout the evening. These include Plainhead, Isolation Berlin and the post-punk band Das Format.

Just in time for Valentine's Day, the Museum of Urban and Contemporary Art is presenting a highlight work: the world-famous shredded Banksy artwork Girl Without Balloon will be on display in the MUCA Bunker until 13 April. Hardly any other work has caused such a stir in the art world and beyond.
The work, then titled Girl With Balloon, was the final lot of Sotheby's prestigious London evening auction in October 2018 and sold for just over £1,000,000. However, shortly after the hammer fell on the final bid, a siren sounded amidst the hustle and bustle of the auction room and the painting spectacularly began to shred through the bottom of its frame. After more than half of the painting had been cut into strips, it was taken away by excited staff and a media frenzy began. The destruction of the artwork gave it even greater significance.

The Museum Mensch und Natur is showing a special exhibition dedicated to the skeleton and the bones from which it is made on over 400 square metres. From the shrew to the hippopotamus and from the parrotfish to the owl, a wide variety of skeletal specimens are presented and X-ray films show how dynamically the seemingly rigid skeletal structures operate. In addition, a large part of the exhibition is dedicated to the topic of “bones“. Among other things, the internal structure of bones is shown, the constant processes of formation and degradation are explained and bone diseases are analysed.

Timmy discovers the opera. A look in front of and behind the scenes of the music theater
In this age-appropriate insight into the hustle and bustle of theatre life and everything that contributes to the success of an opera, children aged 5 to 12 can find out what happens behind the scenes of an opera house. Timmy is allowed to take part in a children's choir rehearsal at the opera house and passes all kinds of doors on the way there, behind which mysterious, strange and, yes, funny things happen. He sees singers in rehearsal, make-up artists with wigs and false noses and technicians working with fog, thunder and fire. The chamber ensemble of the Freies Landestheater Bayern performs excerpts from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's “Magic Flute“, Carl Maria von Weber's “Freischütz“ and Engelbert Humperdinck's “Hansel and Gretel“.

Timmy visits a “historical funfair“, an amusement park as it was over 100 years ago. Have fairgrounds actually always existed? Timmy goes in search of clues. He doesn't find a bumper car at a historical fairground, but he does find a whole host of other things that fascinate him: Hurdy-gurdy players, artists, dancers, magicians with marionettes and the rogue Till Eulenspiegel, who gets Timmy into a lot of trouble. The chamber ensemble of the Freies Landestheater Bayern plays melodies by Peter I. Tchaikovsky, Georges Bizet, Léo Delibes, Gioachino Rossini and Richard Strauss.

The Children's Museum has moved and is now located in new premises in Messestadt West. At the beginning of April, the new exhibition Bau mit (‘Build with us!’) for children aged 4 and over will start right away. At this hands-on construction site, the little ones can playfully learn all about urban development, construction sites and energy supply - they can erect walls with a crane, build towers and create a model of their own construction project. The exhibition ‘Drawing Memories - Life Stories in Comics’ for young people aged 14 and over is also running at the Children's Museum until 11 April 2025!

The Olympiapark (Olympic Park) offers all kinds of action and excitement for the more adventurous. In the “Spartan Munich“ obstacle course, amateur athletes will rise above themselves when they have to overcome walls and barbed wires, wade through mud or swim in lakes and climb ropes. At the finish line, everyone is a hero!

The “Night of Jumps“ offers a breathtaking show and plenty of adrenaline, with stars from the motocross scene flying through the Olympiahalle during the two-wheeled action. Freestyle athletes dare to perform daring stunts such as the no-hand flip or the holygrab. The pros race over the ramps in the hall and perform stunts that send them flying through the air.

Blessing and basking in the sun – the two go hand-in-hand at Heiliger Berg (Holy Mountain). The terrace at Kloster Andechs (Andechs Abbey) boasts an incredible view over the Munich area. The church next door is an important place of Catholic pilgrimage and is also the burial place of several Bavarian dukes. People having been making the pilgrimage to Heiliger Berg in Andechs since the 12th century, making it the oldest pilgrimage in Bavaria. The abbey itself has been around since 1455, when the Benedictine monks moved into the former castle. It is still home to six monks today. Nowadays, pilgrims are also less likely to travel to Heiliger Berg looking for salvation but rather the abbey's excellent food and, above all, beer. Several paths lead up to Heiliger Berg, the two most popular of which start at the train station in nearby Herrsching. One winds its way up from the bottom through the forest while the other follows a ridge to the abbey. The higher path is slightly shorter while the lower is better for pushchairs and bikes. You should plan around one and a half hours for the route.
Chefs love this plant for its taste: reminiscent of garlic, hot yet also somehow mild and fresh. Wild garlic is a true super herb. Its leaves are ideal for salads while its stalks can be chopped down and used for flavouring. Experts in natural healing prescribe wild garlic for gastrointestinal problems. Eating wild garlic is also said to protect against heart attacks and strokes. In the Middle Ages, the plant was therefore regarded as a particularly beneficial medicinal plant that could ward off harm. If you’re lucky, you may find fresh wild garlic in the local supermarket. True wild garlic fans, on the other hand, go hunting for the plant themselves in April. Wild garlic thrives in moist, shady spots in lowland forests and deciduous woods. You've got a good chance of finding some in the Englischer Garten, the Isar flood plains or Pasinger Stadtpark on the banks of the Würm River. You may also find it in the Ostfriedhof and Waldfriedhof cemeteries. During your hunt, it's always best to follow your nose. If you can smell garlic then you're on track for finding wild garlic.
